GPS-Guided Travel in Guatemala

Not too long ago, my aunt and uncle were visiting from Canada and decided to spend the day in San Juan la Laguna. They wanted to see the Mayan stingless bee demonstration. But on their way to the tour location, they took a wrong turn, got lost, and ended up having to walk back they way they’d come—up an insanely steep hill. By the time they were back on track, they were too tired to keep exploring. No Mayan stingless bees for them.

This all could have been prevented if they could have seen where they were in real-time, gotten directions to the stingless bees, and had information on their destination—offline and in one place, with no need to pay expensive roaming costs.

Fortunately, that is now possible!

I’ve teamed up with the folks at GPSmyCity to convert some of my travel articles into self-guided, GPS-powered walking tours.

Why Use a GPS-Guided Travel Article?

A finger points to an on-screen green location icon on a map of Panajachel Guatemala.

Instead of juggling between blog posts, Google Maps, and travel notes, GPSmyCity does it all for you. The app offers:

GPS Navigation without Internet – No Wi-Fi or data? No problem. The app works entirely offline using GPS.
See Exactly Where You Are – No more walking in circles or getting hopeless lost! A small blue dot on the map shows your real-time location so you know what direction to take.
Follow a Tailored Route – Explore just like I did, hitting all the must-see spots and hidden gems.
No Tour Groups Needed – Enjoy the flexibility of a self-guided tour while still getting expert recommendations.

GPSmyCity is more than just a travel app—it’s like having a personal tour guide in your pocket. And it’s not only useful for Guatemala. The app will help you explore over 1,500 cities around the world.

At each destination, you’ll have access to offline interactive maps, self-guided city walks powered by GPS, and information and insider tips curated by local guides.
